Learning to play the guitar isn’t necessarily difficult — the real challenge is often staying motivated over the long term. Unfortunately, traditional guitar lessons can still involve exercises that are too difficult, unsuitable, or overly focused on theory.

This is one of the most common questions beginners ask when starting to learn how to play the guitar.
Of course, the different types of guitars have their own characteristics. However, for beginners, the most important thing is to choose the guitar they feel most drawn to and that inspires them to practise. After all, when you enjoy playing your instrument, you’re more likely to stay motivated and learn with enthusiasm over the long term.
It’s particularly unfortunate when someone inherits an old family guitar, only to find that learning to play becomes unnecessarily difficult because the instrument is hard or impossible to play. A poorly set-up or unsuitable guitar can quickly take the enjoyment out of learning, especially in the beginning.

At What Age Should You Start Learning Guitar?
Anyone who can hold a guitar can learn to play it! Children can start having their first musical successes from around the age of four, and adults can continue to make great progress at any age — even well beyond retirement.
Even if others tell you that it’s too late to start, remember: it’s never too late to learn something new!
